Parts of Medicare

Part A

Medicare Part A covers short-term hospital, nursing facility, hospice, and some home care. If you have worked at least ten years paying Medicare taxes, you are eligible to receive premium-free coverage.

Part B

Medicare Part B covers various necessary medical costs, including health treatments and preventive services. You must pay a premium fee that, as of 2020, is on average $144.60 a month based on your yearly income and tax return.

Part C and D

Medicare Advantage, or Part C, and Part D are offered by private insurers rather than the federal government. Part C includes all of the benefits of parts A and B with many additional benefits, including dental, vision, and hearing care. The cost of this and Part D is dependent on the plan/insurer you choose.

Part D covers prescription drug costs. Some Advantage plans include Part D coverage, so be sure to take this into consideration when choosing a plan.
